Matchmans Open

Latest comp in the Matchman’s Opens was held on a blusterly Point West, where initially the weed didn’t appear to be a problem prior to the comp starting. Once underway however, the strengthening wind pushed more weed inshore and fishing conditions worsened, but there was fish to be caught. Stuie Littlewood landed four dogfish in his first three casts to take an early lead, but then had to endure a lean period with the odd dog and mackeral. Orry Turner was the most consistant catching throughout, and although not the biggest catches of late, his nine dogfish and two mackeral was enough for the win. Only just 14cms behind Turner was Mark Quirk who had a similar catch to take second, and a late surge from John Senogles pushed him into third and the final cash prize. Pools went to Turner for the heaviest dogfish, and Ben Richards with a 12oz mackeral.

Top six. 1, O. Turner 777cms; 2, M. Quirk 763; 3, J. Senogles 713; 4, C. Skillicorn 661; 5, S. Littlewood 614; 6, I. Ashcroft.

This sunday, the 8th , will be another matchman’s open again at Point West, fishing 1.00-5.00pm. Entry fee is £10, with everyone welcome .
