Local anglers were treated to an improptu casting demonstration last Saturday, when World Surfcasting champion Danny Moeskops took time out of his hoilday.
Originally due to be held at the Grand Island part of the Vollan, conditions dictated a move to the north pier. Even with these restrictions, Danny showed off the his skill and unique style to cast leads unbeleivable distances, most of which you couldn’t see where the lead landed. The big bonus came when Danny, sponsored by Century Rods and Pure Fishing ( Abu ), then asked everyone there to have a cast, and although at first there was a slow uptake, everyone who had a cast or two were then given advice and tips to improve their own casting. Danny then had a short question and answer session where he gave more advice on reel tuning and a few other secrets not to be divulged!!!. A big thanks must go out to Danny, Ronny, Paul and Lou for this demonstration.
Danny’s purpose of visiting the island was to fish and especially to land a tope, and as every manx angler knows the tope have not been showing off the beaches this summer so far, but on saturday night the fish gods smiled down and Danny landed one of three caught, fittingly his was the heaviest at 28lbs.
