Matchman’s Open

After two excellent turnouts, there was a disappointing showing of only nine anglers for the latest comp on the Vollan. With a strong westerly blowing offshore conditions on the whole were ok, although cold, and for once all anglers who fished caught fish. Not having  the best results in recent times , Ian Ashcroft the self acclaimed “old man of the sea” turned in a match winning bag of seven whiting, two codling and a plaice to beat Mark Quirk’s eight whiting catch by only 9cms.

Quirk took the best whiting of the night to add a pool to his winnings. Rob Sharples added a small bass to four whiting to take third spot, with the heaviest fish of the night falling to Kevin Doyle, a 38cm coalie of a pound. With Ramsey Angling club’s next two comps being on the 29th, fishing 2.00-6.00pm, and the 5th of Feb at 6.00-10.00pm , the next open, if required will be on the 12th of Feb,
